Military Leaders Unite: Coordinating for Peace in DR Congo’s Troubled East

Military leaders from four regional blocs in DR Congo are gathering in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the African Union’s guidance to coordinate troop deployments in the troubled eastern region. Their goal is to harmonize peace efforts and division of labor in response to threats from groups like M23 and ADF. This meeting follows renewed fighting and aims to prevent further escalation. It involves representatives from regional bodies like ECCAS, EAC, ICGLR, and SADC. The SADC bloc plans to send troops soon, and the EAC deployed forces in 2022 to oversee a fragile ceasefire. Achieving stability in eastern DR Congo remains a challenge due to numerous armed groups operating there.
